As an inner city church, formed in 1895, within the capital city of Edinburgh, we seek to be a loving and accepting church for the incredibly diverse and needy society around us. Although relatively small we are a multi-cultural and multi-racial church that regularly welcomes to our Sunday services people of a wide age range and from all walks of life, including those who have not yet come to know Christ. Our church’s history is an amazing story of God’s unfailing guidance and faithful provision enabling a fellowship of ordinary Christians to faithfully witness, year in, and year out, to the people who live within the Abbeyhill area for more than a century.

VISION

Worship - Our desire and purpose is that God will be central in Abbeyhill Baptist Church – the focus of all that we are; all we think, say, and do.

Personal Growth - Our desire and purpose as individuals at Abbeyhill Baptist Church is to commit to a continual development of Christ likeness which is rooted in Biblical teaching.

Family Responsibility - Our desire and purpose as the family of Abbeyhill Baptist Church is to encourage, support and strengthen one another; creating a place where everyone is welcomed, appreciated, and allowed to discover and develop their full potential in Christ.

Loving Our Neighbours - Our desire and purpose is that we in Abbeyhill Baptist Church rejoice in making Christ known to those we meet in our everyday lives; in our neighbourhood and further afield.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We seek to respond to God through commitment to His will as revealed in Christ and the scriptures and are bound together in our common faith.

The ethos of Abbeyhill Baptist Church arises from the experience of Christ’s love in our lives. It is His love which motivates us in our relationships with God and with men and women, whether within or outwith the church.

Believer’s baptism has been an integral part of Christianity from the very beginning. It is an outward act by which the person being baptised testifies to a decisive inner step which has taken place, namely, personal commitment to Jesus Christ.  It expresses repentance towards God, personal faith in Christ as Saviour and Lord of their life. It identifies them with Christ’s people. Baptism normally takes place by full immersion in water. It is a symbol not only of cleansing but also of being buried with Christ so death to the old life then rising to new life in Christ by his Holy Spirit.  (Acts 2:38-41, 8:12, Romans 6:4, Galatians 3:26,27)

We are currently enjoying hearing from a variety of different speakers in our Sunday services. We are praying about calling a new pastor to lead our church.
